Players would drive over 'attachment' pickups on the track - then a high-speed drone would deliver the weapon or gadget and fit it to their vehicle. The different attachments would be fitted to this small mount so they could be easily interchangeable.

One of my team's prototype games for Uni. 'GODSPEED' was a combat racing game inspired by Redline, Star Wars and a bunch of other sources.
In the far-future world of GODSPEED, clean energy has long since been achieved, and mastered. Unfortunately, the vehicles that run on it just don't go fast enough for some. GODSPEED puts the player in control of a racer in an underground circuit on a backwater planet, driving 'Rides' powered by similarly-illegal 'Celerium' fuel. This allows the hovering vehicles to achieve adrenaline-pumping speeds. A major lore component to the game was the idea of a 'Precursor' race of beings that had mastered acceleration and achieved enlightenment through doing so. The race organizers were actually using the competition as a way of finding drivers who would be able to complete trials left behind by the Precursors, that only a skilled racer could beat and claim the treasures inside.

I was responsible for modelling and animating the vehicle, as well as some of the weapons and gadgets the player can use over the course of the race. This project was super fun, hopefully plan to take it further.
